2026 Rate Adjustment: The Power of Choice
As a member-owned cooperative, MVEA’s rate changes are designed to better control costs for everyone. Much of what we pay for power depends on how electricity is used across our system. By updating our rates to better reflect those costs, members have more opportunities to manage their use and their bills. When members adjust how and when they use electricity, it can help lower power costs and support more stable rates for everyone.
The Why:
- About 60 cents of every dollar MVEA collects goes to our wholesale power supplier, Tri-State G&T.
- The updated rate structure better reflects how power costs occur across our system.
- Members will have more opportunities to manage their electricity use and their monthly bills.
- When members shift use to lower cost time or reduce high demand use, it can help support more stable rates for everyone.
What to Expect:
- Starting with electricity used in October and billed in November, members will be able to choose the rate plan that best fits their lifestyle.
- Residential members will have three rate options: the Demand Rate, the Time-of-Day Rate, and the Flat Rate.
- Demand Rate: This default rate separates the cost of electricity that you use from the cost of maintaining a system that can meet high demand. Your bill will include a demand charge based on your highest one-hour period of electricity use during the month, Monday through Friday. Using electricity more evenly throughout the day may help lower your bill.
- Time-of-Day Rate: The optional Time-of-Day Rate lets members save by using electricity during off-peak hours. On-peak hours are 5 to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday. Weekends and Holidays are off-peak.
- Flat Rate: The Flat Rate does not include a demand charge or different pricing for on-peak and off-peak hours. This rate has a higher cost but is simpler to understand.
- Members who do not choose to enroll in a different option will be placed on the default Demand Rate.
We will provide more information and resources to this page in the next few weeks.
