More Than Linemen: Neighbors Helping Neighbors in Limon

MVEA’s Limon crew recently stepped up to help the Town of Limon replace several lights at the Limon Softball Complex ahead of another busy baseball and softball season.

The project required a larger bucket truck than the town had available, and for MVEA’s crews, lending a hand was about more than replacing light bulbs — it was about supporting a community they proudly call home.

As crews worked high above the fields replacing stadium lights, conversations on the ground reflected just how personal the project was. Several linemen shared that their own sons and daughters play on these same fields, making the opportunity to help improve the facility especially meaningful.

That connection is what makes electric cooperatives different.

At MVEA, our crews are not only the people who restore power during storms and maintain the electric system year-round — they are also parents in the stands, volunteers in the community, and neighbors invested in the places we serve.

The Limon Softball Complex has long been a centerpiece of recreation and athletics in eastern Colorado. Located just south of Interstate 70, the complex serves as a gathering place for local leagues, traveling teams, and regional tournaments across the high plains. For generations of families, the fields have been home to practices, championships, celebrations, and lifelong memories.

Limon also carries a proud softball tradition. The Limon Badgers softball program has built a legacy of success over the years, earning multiple state championship titles and becoming one of Colorado’s powerhouse programs.

Concern for Community is one of the seven cooperative principles that guide electric cooperatives across the country, and this project was a perfect example of that principle in action.
