Meet MVEA’s Newest Director: Tye W. Amendt

For more than 20 years, Tye W. Amendt has heard stories about Mountain View Electric Association around family dinners and conversations with his father-in-law, Rick Gordon, who recently retired from the MVEA Board after 34 years of service. This summer, those conversations came full circle when Amendt was elected to represent District 2 on MVEA’s Board of Directors at the cooperative’s Annual Meeting on June 4.
“I always thought the Board was interesting and appreciated the work it does,” Amendt said. “I’ve always liked the cooperative model and the idea that every member matters equally.”
Today, Amendt brings his own experience to the boardroom. He owns Compass Financial, a wealth management firm headquartered in Limon, and serves as vice chairman of the Big Sandy Fire Protection District Board. He hopes his background in finance and leadership will help MVEA continue serving members well while preparing for future growth.
“Growth is going to continue in the MVEA service area, and we will need to continue investing in infrastructure, employees, and efficient processes to serve new members,” he said. “I want to help ensure the cooperative remains financially strong and positioned for long-term success.”
While finances and planning are important, Amendt says the cooperative’s commitment to community also resonates with him. When asked about the cooperative principle of Concern for Community, his answer came quickly and with emotion.
“My wife, Kimberly, and I have a deep passion for our community,” he said. “Whether it’s supporting local organizations, volunteering our time, or coaching youth sports, we believe in leaving our community better than we found it. That’s something we try to live every day.”
Family time is a top priority for Amendt. When he’s not working or serving his community, he enjoys spending time with Kimberly and their four children, Brynlee, Breckyn, Weston, and Wager. Sports play a big role in their lives, and he believes the lessons learned on the field – teamwork, perseverance, and resilience – often carry over into everyday life. He also admits to being an avid golfer whenever he can find the time.
As he begins his first term as an MVEA director, Amendt is focused on learning all he can about the co-op and earning the trust of the members he serves.
“I’m honored to have the opportunity to represent our members,” he said. “At the end of the day, we’re making decisions that affect our neighbors, our communities, and our families. That’s a responsibility I take seriously.”
