Go Greener for Just Pennies: MVEA’s Green Power Program Holds Its Low Price for 2026
Mountain View Electric Association’s Green Power program continues to offer one of the simplest, most affordable ways for members to support renewable energy – and in 2026, the price is staying the same.
For just 10¢ per 100 kWh block (in addition to the member’s regular monthly bill for actual kWh use), members can purchase Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) that help fund the development of clean energy such as wind, solar, and bio-fuel. These RECs are sourced either through the open market or from MVEA’s power supplier, Tri-State G&T, and their expanding renewables portfolio, ensuring member participation has a direct impact on growing the region’s supply of green energy.
What makes the program especially appealing is how accessible it is. When MVEA first introduced Green Power in 2000, each 100 kWh block cost $2.50. Thanks to advancements in renewable technology and reduced development costs, that price has dropped to just a dime per block – and it’s staying that way for another year. For a residential member using around 1,000 kWh a month, participating in the program amounts to an investment of only $1 per month to help advance renewable energy generation.
Beyond affordability, Green Power offers members an easy way to make a meaningful difference without installing panels, changing equipment, or altering their daily habits. Every block purchased increases overall demand for renewable resources and helps drive continued innovation in clean energy. It’s a small step that collectively moves our communities toward a more sustainable future.
Signing up is simple: members can enroll online at www.mvea.coop/green-power. MVEA requests a one-year commitment, but members may choose the number of blocks that best fit their goals and budget.
For those looking to make their energy use a little greener – and support renewable development in a big way – the Green Power program is an impactful solution.
