MVEA Hosts Successful Mulch Madness Event in Monument

MVEA, in partnership with the Town of Monument Public Works Department and Monument Fire District, successfully hosted its second annual Mulch Madness community wildfire mitigation event on Saturday, April 11, in Monument.

The event provided residents with the opportunity to bring tree limbs and branches to be chipped and recycled into mulch – helping reduce wildfire risk while promoting safe vegetation management practices. A total of 178 MVEA members participated, taking proactive steps to protect their properties and the surrounding community by clearing excess brush and tree debris.

Mulch Madness continues to grow in impact and participation. This year’s event follows the program’s debut in Elbert, in 2025, further reinforcing MVEA’s commitment to wildfire mitigation and community safety across its service territory.

“Wildfire mitigation is a shared responsibility, and events like Mulch Madness make it easier for our members to take meaningful action,” said Sara Muirheid, MVEA Communications Supervisor. “By working together with our local partners, we’re helping reduce fire risk while keeping our communities safe and resilient.”

MVEA extends its appreciation to the Town of Monument Public Works Department and Monument Fire District for their partnership, as well as to all participating members who contributed to making the event a success.

Proper tree trimming and vegetation management are critical not only for wildfire prevention but also for maintaining reliable electric service. MVEA reminds members that it offers free tree trimming near power lines to help ensure safety, prevent outages, and maintain reliable electric service.
